The people here really love animals and do everything they can to help the animals. Love this place
I've had good experiences with DAH going back 17yrs.. Dr. Catherine Rottinghaus has always been a pleasure to speak with and given me the straight poop. so they're alright in my book!
Dr. Rottinghaus was so great with my dog! They are personable here and the prices are better than anywhere else in town.
My hope is that the front staff keeps getting more education so that they can be on top of client questions.
Durango Animal Hospital is the best. They have taken care of two of my dogs now, and I can say enough great things about them. Especially Dr. Rottinghaus. Her care was amazing as she helped Roadie battle cancer. We are lucky to have such a great place for our animals here in town.
The staff and vets are very friendly. BUT two of the vets did not return email or phone call requests on 3-4 different occasions. So to get my question answered I finally called the front desk which didn't know the answers.....they are not vets. So maybe I got the correct answers after being put on hold a few times from the office staff or not.
BUT after the vet at Durango Animal Hospital cleared things up in our phone conversation. I transferred back to Durango Animal and I updated my initial entry and updated the rating from a 2 to a 4.
But after the initial lack-of-communication experience I started calling other vets and discovered that the cost of a dog spay is the highest at Durango Animal Clinic. And when I requested a local anesthesia at the incision site, Durango Animal Clinic refused to do it while it is normal operating procedure for Riverside Animal Clinic as part of their package for spaying. (For humans it is very beneficial when undergoing surgery to have the local site anesthetized as well as being put under. While the person is unconscious their body definitely feels the slicing and is traumatized by it. Healing is much much faster by doing the local.)
Once again when I talked to the vet as stated earlier, she cleared this up for me as well. She said that the office staff misunderstood my local anesthesia question--thinking I ONLY wanted a local. Of course not. How would my dog stay still if she wasn't also anaesthetized ? AND the office staff misquoted the price of a spay. So again the office manager was going to be consulted to update the front desk staff.
Later I talked with one of the vets and she told me that she never got either of my messages so a communication blip occurred. She was going to talk to the office manager and see about resolving that and future issues. The process of working through this was very satisfactory after all was said and done.
So then I transferred to another veterinary office.
